TALENT COMPETITION

Heritage Day on 24 September recognises and celebrates the cultural wealth of our nation. South Africans celebrate the day by remembering the cultural heritage of the many cultures that make up the population of South Africa. Various events are staged throughout the country to commemorate this day.

In the vein of celebrating shared culture rather than focusing on cultural divisions, an initiative by Braai4Heritage calls upon all South Africans to celebrate their common roots by having a braai on Heritage Day with the idea of everybody gathering around one fire irrespective of politics, culture, race, etc. – just South Africans doing one thing together, and recognising that we are a fantastic nation.

Emalahleni Housing Company will commemorate Heritage Day this year in the same spirit, but in order to celebrate our culture we have developed a programme for the day that will showcase the talent of our children and youth.

The programme will focus on children and youth in the following age categories:

10-12 years;

13 to 15 years; and

16 to 19 years.

Emalahleni Housing Company will host a talent competition that will encourage children and youth to practice their art and cultural skills from early in the year in preparation for the competition.

The competition will be divided into the following categories:

  • Singing (all age groups – individual performers. The best performer in each age group will be awarded a prize)
  • Traditional Dance (all age groups – no restriction of the number of members in each group, but performers will be judged individually – top 3 performers in each age group will be awarded prizes)
  • Modern Dance (all age groups – no restriction of the number of members in each group, but performers will be judged individually – top 3 performers in each age group will be awarded prizes)
  • Modelling (all age groups – individuals. The most talented individual in each age group will be awarded a prize)

The prizes for the winners will be a one-year scholarship to enroll in a song, dance (traditional / modern) or modelling academy in order to nurture their talent and empower them to pursue a career in their respective fields.

All performers are required to register for the competition by completing a registration form which is available *HERE* or from either Rose Chetty at the EHC Head Office or Sibongile Skhosana at the Uthingo Park Office. Registration is free and parents are urged to assist younger performers to register. Upon registration you will be required to provide proof of identification (ID document or birth certificate) for each entrant. For further enquiries, kindly contact Sibongile Skhosana at 081 572 0991 / 0815071632 or Rose Chetty at 081 545 4911 / 081 530 3025.

We look forward to receiving your entry forms!
